Inspired by the news of the week.
Letting Go Of The Future is the first track completed for the in-progress Short Songs For Long Faces EP. I was considering the type of obsessions from which we can’t set ourselves free. There’s a certain stubbornness, or is it pride, that binds us to these habits even when confronted with help.
Totally unqualified, as I am, to diagnose these things I hold the belief there’s a part of us that wants to be understood, even in the middle of the mess we’ve made. We want someone to come all the way to us, to care that much. And if we don’t eventually grab that outstretched hand that’s when we are Letting Go Of The Future.
It’s 2:21 long.
One of my favorite coffeeshops is Flying Saucers. Ryan Morris, the owner, graciously invited me to play my song Flying Saucer at the most recent art opening, an exhibition of UFO inspired pieces by Sean Day.
Flying Saucer hasn’t landed on a recording yet but it’s been circling the cosmos for a while, dating back to shows with Velvet in the 90’s. It was a mini reunion as Velvet bassist Mark Prudeaux joined my on vocals.

Got in a bit of bicycling yesterday. Will try for more today.
Now that my cd is recorded and sent out to cdbaby, it’s time to make sure I can actually perform the songs. My buddy Robert Oriol wrote Pop Star with me and came up with that really nice piano line. Uhhh. How to play it as a solo act strumming and singing? I had to learn it like it was a cover tune. Here’s the intro.
On Sun Oct 10 bassist Anna Rosales and drummer Alexa Brinkschulte will join me playing for the Long Beach Marathon. We’ll be somewhere around the 22 mile marker 🙂 Last year I played it as a solo act and enjoyed it so much I want to bring a full band. There were 17.000 runners. We’re giving them energy and good vibes.
Here we are on the 1rst run through of Little Dreamer.
